The European Center for Language Studies - Miranta Merkouri in Pirgos, in the context of its efforts to improve education in foreign language learning assigned the training of its staff with the renowned international college STAFFORD HOUSE TUTORIAL COLLEGE and the reputable educational organization PILGRIMS at CANTERBURY in the UK.
For this purpose, the teacher experts PETER DOBSON and IAN JASPER were invited to Pirgos, who remained from March 9 to March 16, 1996 and involved themselves with the briefing and training of the teaching staff in the morning and teaching observation and co-teaching in the afternoon and evening hours during the language school’s operation.
The thematic topics covered by the guest teachers contained teaching and learning foreign languages, vocabulary, grammar, analysis of texts, pictures, acoustic competencies, and ongoing speech, cultural studies, phonology, and more.
Students and teachers had the unique opportunity to exchange opinions and to render immense value from the valuable experience of the foreign teachers who where amazed by the thorough organization of the language school and the Greek hospitality.
Everyone expressed the desire for this cooperation to establish itself as an institution in the future.
The European Center for Language Studies – Miranta Merkouri is an achievement inspired by Miranta Merkouri, who after lengthy studies and a professional career, domestically and abroad, returns dynamically in 1991 to the place of her descent, Pirgos of the Ilia prefecture, to fulfill her goals: to offer her knowledge and extensive experience in the field of foreign language education.
